CEOP Satellite Data Server Goals
The CEOP Satellite Data Server is actually a gateway with an OPeNDAP front end and the ability to access data via the OGC WCS protocol on the backend. Though originally developed for the Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period (CEOP) effort, it can be used with other WCS servers. It is implemented as a plug-in handler to the Hyrax server distributed by OPeNDAP www.opendap.org.
Project Goals
The project was funded by NASA’s Advancing Collaborative Connections for Earth System Science (ACCESS) Program, whose objective is to enhance and improve existing components of the distributed and heterogeneous data and information systems infrastructure that support NASA’s Earth science research goals.
Functional Goals
The key functional goal is to enable an OPeNDAP client to transparently access data served as a coverage by a WCS server.
Evolvability Goals
Although the NASA funding for the CEOP Satellite Data Server has expired, the software is distributed as Open Source and maintained by OPeNDAP, at www.opendap.org. Potential contributors should work with OPeNDAP on needed enhancements and bug-fixes.
Usability Goals
The CEOP Satellite Data Server handler is meant for installation by data systems personnel that have some experience with the OPeNDAP protocol and the Hyrax server in particular. Information about this can be found at www.opendap.org.
